π¨ Should the Senate suspend the filibuster and let the majority rule? π₯
The House has passed the bill.
The President says he's ready to sign it.
A majority in the Senate says it supports it.
Yet in Washington, having the votes isn't always enough.
Because in today's Senate, a minority can stop legislation supported by a majority of lawmakers—and, in some cases, a majority of Americans.
Supporters of suspending the filibuster say elections should have consequences.
If voters elect leaders and those leaders have the votes, legislation should rise or fall on a simple majority.
Opponents argue that the filibuster is one of the last safeguards against one-party rule. They say it forces compromise, protects minority voices, and prevents massive policy swings every time power changes hands.
So what's more important?
Protecting minority rights?
Or allowing the majority to govern?
Because this debate isn't really about one bill.
It's about the future of the Senate itself.
Should 60 votes be required to move the country forward? Or should 51 be enough?
